自幼跟随热贡地区享有“四大天王”之称的尖木措大师学习藏传佛教传统绘画及泥塑雕刻。在唐卡艺术先辈们的薰陶和引领下，经过数十年潜心钻研、博采众长，被中华人民共和国人力资源和社会保障部考评为国家一级技师、国家职业技能鉴定考评员，并荣获青海省工艺美术大师称号。 2015年，桑杰本被聘为国家民族画院唐卡艺术研究院执行院长。

  • 2018年2月9日，联合国世界人民理事会主席卡兹安女士代表联合国授予桑杰本“世界和平文化大使”。
  • 2019年2月桑杰本唐卡作品彩唐《五百罗汉》 金唐《三怙主》被国家博物馆永久收藏。
